Dobbs will be a big challenge
Georgia faces another stern quarterback challenge on Saturday in Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs, a quarterback Smart said has improved every time he’s seen him play.
“I don’t know if it was his first start when we were in Knoxville, he played a lot,” Smart said. “I don’t know if he started but he played a lot and from that point to now he has improved so much. He shocked us that night. We really weren’t prepared for him that night and he did a really good job.”
Dobbs certainly gave the Bulldogs a lot of trouble in last year’s 38-31 loss to the Volunteers as the Georgia native completed 25 of 42 passes for 312 yards while rushing for an additional 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Last week, Dobbs led the Vols’ second-half comeback to beat Florida for the first time in 11 tries, 38-28.
“He’s improved his ability to throw the ball, his passing game is much better, he’s got really good skill guys and he’s got a good system around him,” Smart said. “They’ve got a good tempo, he goes fast, so the guy has improved immensely and is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He’s also one of the best leaders I know.”
