learned. I have been a Tennessee and Green Bay Packer fan since the early 60's. There were times that I called out sick just to listen to a game called by John Ward on the radio or to just watch the scores come across the TV screen. I have been so sick after a loss or during a loss that I threw up, threw things, got thrown out of bars and generally made an ass out of myself. My passion for the game has probably cost me at least 2 of my 4 marriages. Can't say I blame one of them. After all, I was at one of my ex's, grandfathers funerals with an earpiece listening to the 85 Auburn game and yelled out 'kill the MF" after our defense sent Bo Jackson to the bench. Like I said, can't blame her for that one, but damn. what a game.
I have found all kinds of ways to follow the Vol's and Packers over the years. Snuck into the Chief of Staffs office at a hospital I worked for and watched most of a Bama/UT game and found his stash of Jack Black. Quite tasty.
Last year when we lost to FL, I was so angry I was speaking in tongue and invented a whole new range of profanity. I thought I was going to have a stroke. Thank God those Jehovahs Witnesses showed up when that did. So, what have I learned? That no amount of cussing, screaming or wanting a coaching change will change anything. My passion for the Vol's is still as strong as it was 54 years ago, but I can't let the negative aspect of the game destroy my health and alienate those I care about. The GQ was horrible during the 1st half of Saturdays game and I may have been guilty of contributing to it. I want to be a better fan. I will support Coach Jones until he leaves. It is very clear that he cares deeply about Tennessee and wants to take us to the top. If you're honest with yourself, most of us don't know squat about what's really going on. With that said, GO VOL's!
