Tennessee was back to work with plenty of urgency on Tuesday as preparations continue for Virginia Tech.
On the health watch everyone was out there except guys like Chance Hall. In green jersey's were Preston Williams, Josh Smith, Jalen Hurd, Jauan Jennings, and Austin Smith. There was no green jersey for Jalen Reeves Maybin for the first time this season. Jason Croom was not in a green non-contact jersey and appeared full go in practice.
On the offensive line, we didn't get to see any 11 on 11 work, but the focus was on leverage, finishing and correcting obvious technique and assignment issues.
When the Vols hit the five man sled they did with the starting five from last Thursday night. Now that doesn't mean anything as the competition is on going there. Coleman Thomas didn't have any kind of heavy wrap on his ankle.
Kyle Phillips did seem be nursing his right ankle as it was pretty heavily taped. Phillips didn't play Thursday night.
After a quick period of special teams work, Jones had his team jump right into scout team work as we were leaving. Speaking of scout team, one interesting note is that freshman Daniel Bituli was working with the scout team defensive line.
Finally, if there was any doubt left on Dobbs he was out there on the practice field today.
Paul's Observations:
Four offensive players were in green during Tuesday afternoon's practice, Preston Williams, who didn't really do much in the time we saw, Jauan Jennings, Jalen Hurd and Josh Smith. Defensive end Austin Smith was in his usual green jersey as well.
The emphasis early on was on special teams as the Vols worked some punt and kickoff return drills. Obviously, even with Beamer not at Tech any more, it's still a program with a rich special teams history.
Shy Tuttle was working in the normal drills with the defensive line, as was Alexis Johnson.
