It’s a zoo on UT’s campus right now with spring practice going on + about 70 prospects and family members on hand.
It’s a chilly morning with high wind gusts. So, the elements weren’t perfect. Tennessee began its morning like it always does inside the Anderson Training Center for stretches and circuit work. Creating more turnovers is always an emphasis on defense and the coaches were making that point known in the early portion of practice.
Outside, we got to see a little bit of popping as the team now has helmets and shoulder pads on.
The squad immediately went into individual work with the linebackers heading straight for the tackling sled. The group was split into two with Mikes on one side and Wills on the other. They worked on steps, pop and arm extension – before ripping to one side or the other, depending on the read.
The defensive line hit the bags and did some cage work while the offensive line broke off into group work like normal. The interior worked together while the tackles were off to the side.
Because of the wind, it wasn’t the best day throwing the football as balls were sailing at times. During routes on air, it was a struggle just completing simple comeback routes. I saw Ramel Keyton allow one ball right between his hands but am continued to be impressed with Kaleb Webb – who returned to practice today. He has soft hands.
We only got three periods and one was stretching, so we didn’t get much of a look today.
Attendance: Kaleb Webb was back after missing Thursday’s session. We didn’t see LaTrell Bumphus for the second-straight practice. Addison Nichols was not present today, but he will be back with the team tomorrow.
Offensive Coordinator Alex Golesh will speak with the media today after practice around 12:45. Freshman running back Justin Williams-Thomas will chat with us around 2:05 pm.
Recruiting
There are a little over 70 prospects on campus right now. Here’s a couple of notes that we have right now:
Tennessee looks to make some serious headway with cornerback Branden Strozier. UT has been on this one for a while now and he’s back on campus today. It continues to trend well.
The St. Francis presence is a big one today as about eight other of his teammates are on campus as well. The reason? Former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs coaches there and he and Rodney Garner go way back – dating back to their time at Auburn.
Jacobs’ 15-year-old son is with him today. 2025 OL named Brayden Jacobs and he’s listed at 6-3, 270. The Vols will likely offer him today.
Loganville, Ga. linebacker Tyler Atkinson has picked up an offer today. He’ll likely be the top player in the 2026 class starting out. 2023 in-state priority Nathan Robinson and ATH Zack Myers of Arden, NC are also taking in today’s session.
