Tennessee held its fourth practice of the spring — and first in full-pads — Tuesday. We only saw three periods, well, four because Butch Jones made the quarterbacks and receivers re-do a drill.

Once again, special teams, individual and some routes on air were the only portions of practice open to the media.

Several vets were MIA on Tuesday — possibly taking maintenance days.

The quarterbacks were OK, looking much better after Jones made the group restart the drill. At first, Quinten Dormady was a bit wild, while the receivers were dropping too many balls.

Interestingly, Mike Canales gave the quarterbacks a new look, offering a mild pass rush during the session. Ethan Wolf, after a bad drop earlier, and Marquez Callaway both recorded nice catches during the drill.

At the end of the viewing period, the offense and defense worked on blitz pickup in a walk-through. With Rashaan Gaulden out, Baylen Buchanan worked at the nickel. The receivers during the drill were Callaway (on the outside), Latrell Williams in the slot and Jeff George at the Y. The rest of the defense during the drill is outlined below. When the second group entered the drill, Tennessee sported a 4-3 look, with Austin Smith as a blitzing SAM, Daniel Bituli at the MIKE and Dillion Bates at the WILL.

This & That

* Jones off the mic lasted three practices, apparently. The coach was back on the horn Tuesday.

* Justin Martin and Baylen Buchanan were both in green, non-contact jerseys.

* Jashon Robertson worked a bunch at center Tuesday.

* Former longtime coach Jerry Glanville, a Knoxville resident, was at practice, spending a lot of time offering tips to Jones.

* Brett Kendrick, who is out this spring with a shoulder injury, worked with Trey Smith off to the side several times on hand placement during position drills.

* Tennessee tailback commit Trey Coleman was in attendance. The Louisiana native is on spring break and has spent the last couple days in Knoxville.

@Rob Lewis

It was a limited access day by even Butch Jones’ standards on Tuesday, but a few notes nonetheless.

As far as positions go, when the Vols lined up to walk through some blitz pick-up scenarios Baylen Buchanan was in the nickel spot with Nigel Warrior alongside Todd Kelly Jr. at safety. Marquill Osborne and Emmanuel Moseley were at corner. The front four from left to right consisted of Darrell Taylor, Alexis Johnson, Quay Picou and Jonathan Kongbo with Darrin Kirkland Jr. and Cortez McDowell at the linebacker spots.

Obviously that entire defensive look is heavily impacted by injuries.

A good number of offensive linemen looked to be having a ‘maintenance day’ on Tuesday in addition to the guys who are already out for spring, so take the following alignment with a healthy grain of salt. Trey Smith was the first guy up at right tackle, with Jack Jones at right guard, Jashon Robertson at center, Ryan Johnson at left guard and Drew Richmond at left tackle.

Jarrett Guarantano got the first snap under center in that drill, but it’s probably not worthwhile to read a great deal into that.
