Quick takes on a few of yesterday's signees...

Disclaimer: I do not need to be convinced that in order to compete for championships, we need elite classes. I am a firm believer in that. However, I do think while some guys we landed yesterday aren't ranked very well... I would not be surprised to see a few of them turn into quality SEC players.

Mincey is a long, heavy player on the edge. IMO he will play SDE or DT (depending on your preferred nomenclature for the 3-4... He's a 5tech, 4i). Reminds me a lot of Isaiah Buggs at Alabama. He moves really well at 260 and has the build and body composition to play at 285+. I will not be shocked if Mincey far outplays his 3* ranking.

Garland is obviously a project, but I like his game. He reminds me of Corey Vereen in terms of stature and playing style. I believe the plan is for Garland to get as heavy as possible and play on the interior of the defense at 290ish. If it were me, I would try my luck with him at Jack. He has good football instincts and would be really good at setting the edge. He's built a lot like Anfernee Jennings who played Jack at Bama last season. Garland's HS productivity is off the charts... Measurables and position are his question marks.

Impossible not to like Norwood's film. He looks like the type of star or safety that everyone wants. I have no idea why he was so lightly recruited... Rashaan Gaulden is a good comparison for Norwood. Another thing to like is Norwood's offensive skills. Anytime a defensive back has an offensive skill set, they seem to operate well in space. Lastly, Norwood is a willing tackler (that's an understatement). We have had a few guys in our secondary who were atrocious tacklers and I will be happy to see guys with Norwood's disposition, hopefully sooner than later.

I'll be the first to say that I do not like Emmit's JUCO film. He looks too heavy, lacks explosion and violence at the LOS, etc.... However, I love the potential. He was a highly recruited guy leaving high school who has let his body get away from him. The "buy-in" factor is huge for Gooden. If he buys in and wants to be a great player, he will be. He's a long player for a DT/NT type guy... But if he gets his body composition in a better place, he should be able to play with good leverage and be quite disruptive.

Flowers might be the steal of the class. The Dominick Sanders comparison that Jesse made is spot on. Flowers played in some big-time high school football games and more than held his own. He's a willing tackler, a lot like Norwood. He shows an understanding of leveraging the football and coverage principles. I question his speed some, but thats hard to gauge on hudl tape.

With our needs at CB I would think both Norwood and Flowers start there... But IMO neither are true CB's. Both are better suited at S or Star.

This kid has crazy good film. Like most everyone else on this list, it is clear to see that they are "football players." Davis does have the hips to play CB, but he needs to get faster. Good news is, you can develop speed more easily than you can hips. If he sticks to football, he could develop into a solid SEC CB... but again, he will have to gain a step to do so... The rest of his game is there. He makes plays on the ball, disrupts, tackles, etc.
