Shoop has a deep and storing resume as a DC at the top levels. He has not forgotten how to coach a defense and prepare it for a game.
He has had to play 4 games in a row without the starting linebackers from the start of the season. JRM's back up has missed most of the past two games.
Essentially the Vols have been playing non-SEC caliber linebackers in the past two games and you want to blame the defensive coordinator?
Where is Butch's input into the situation?
Butch has had 4 recruiting classes to bring in SEC caliber linebackers to vie for playing time and back up the starters. Where are they? Where are all of the SEC caliber linebackers not named Maybin and Kirkland?
We kept hearing that we had 9 defensive ends who unbelievably talented, athletic, and could step in without this defense missing a beat. Yet, we don't have one quality SEC caliber linebacker to back up Maybin and Kirkland.
We are relying on a 160 pound corner, Mosely to take on and beat bigger WRs and set the corner He would struggle to shuck the block of the kicker and hunter n most teams.…but you guys with your all knowing wisdom choose to blame the DC who is charged with plugging the holes in the dyke with chewing gum.
Our problems right now start and end at the top in regards to the problems with our defense.
