every coach only has so many days with so many hours and so many minutes between games. If a coach says a player is day-to-day or not sure if they are going to play I have to not only work on my scheme against said player, but must also spend time looking for tape of whomever would take their reps.
Most teams on a regular basis will not spend a large amount of time of the third string back, but if he is now the second string I better know more about him. Same is true with other positions if you are someone who wants film and to know their tendencies.
So if I have any opportunity as a coach to get potentially any advantage I am going to take it.
