We have a family member who has made some bad mistakes over the past few years. Nothing that harmed other people or anything. Just some self inflicting mistakes that disappointed himself and his family.

Anyways, seems like he's almost moved on from his mistakes and has learned from them based on his new behavior but has taken to a very depressing state of mind and cannot forgive himself.

Our family has been very supportive and all forgive him (we all make mistakes, just some larger than others).

However, he has gone from happy go lucky to always down, wants to be alone, doesn't want to be around family or friends, isolating himself from society, etc.

Personally I've tried to talk to him, listen, pray for him, whatever I think will help but it seems he can't get over the self remorse and self pity and won't stop blaming himself. A lot of anxiety too.

Just wondering if anybody could shed light or provide any advice on the best way to help someone like this.

It's like everyone he knows and loves has forgiven him but he cannot seem to forgive himself. It's like he doesn't think he's good enough to be around anybody anymore, which is odd bc he's always been the happy, glass half full type of person for as long as I can remember.

Any insight from someone who has been through this or someone who has helped someone go through this? TIA and Go Vols.
