I haven't been able to hunt or fish over the last 9 years due to my back surgeries. So for only the 2nd time since then I decided to try to go turkey hunting this week. Well every time I've made arrangements to go something came up and I wound up not getting to go.

Finally today my goal was finally accomplished. Heard lots of distant gobblers but nothing close enough to try to entice one in. Then about 9:52 I got a a tom to gobble about one hundred or so yards away. My calls must have sounded like the sexiest hen in the country because in about 2 minutes he was about 30 to 35 yards away. I know hunting isn't for everyone but I have always had a passion to be out in the middle of nature listening to distant geese flying, a squirrel barking because he just spotted a hawk, a meandering deer, or any one of dozens of other things you see or hear in the outdoors. At the crack of my gun shot, the turkey was flopping wildly as my aim was true. Man it felt good if only for a short time to finally have the joy of hunting back in my life. Then all of a sudden memories of hundreds of hours of me and my dad spending days and weeks in the outdoors, just the two of us together, father and son sharing their love of being together doing father and son stuff. For the first ever he wasn't there celebrating with me, nor could I call him when I got home to tell him about my success. It's been almost a year now and I miss him more than ever. Daddy I got me a big 'ol gobbler today. Silence
