Sh** talking the competition.

I love college football but it does sadden me how cheap/low class a lot of elements of the game have become.

My grandfather went to Notre Dame but also served in the Navy in WWII. My dad told me about going to a Navy-ND tilt in South Bend with Grandpa when he was a teenager. He said he remembered how disappointed he was when the Notre Dame fans booed Navy as they ran on the field and never really embraced the game after that.

That may be a bit extreme but my grandfather values reputation and class more than almost anything in the world. Seeing the school he loved show disrespect to their opposition was a deal killer for him and, to use a term he often used, "low rent."

That got me thinking about the game today. I've read in two or three threads about opposing coaches sh** talking Butch and Tennessee in their sales pitches. I work in the highly competitive world of IT sales and see that type of low rent behavior all the time but customers despise it and places where I have worked have been adamantly against it.

Here's my question - does it ever occur to anyone a) how trashy college football has become and b) how crazy it is if you think about it that we all turn a blind eye to it.

Think about the last 72 hours:

Grown men joining a live feed to see where a 17 year old is going to play a sport.

Grown men trashing a 17 year old's decision to go to Kentucky.

Coaches sh** talking Butch Jones when you know to his face it's all sunshine and roses.

Alabama players tweeting pictures of Dodge Chargers probably obtained through underhanded means likely enabled by dirty old dudes that care too much about a college sport.

I don't know - maybe my grandfather's disappointment at booing was over the top. Or maybe he sensed what was on the horizon.
