The 1956 Vols will be honored Saturday. That was a great year for me as a twenty year old
"Orange Ogre" fan. That is what the Vols were called in those days. We were unbeaten in the
regular season and finished ranked number two. Johhny Majors was great. The biggest player
on the team weighed 218 lbs..
The Vol teams of those years weren't always the greatest. But the players were tough and gritty.
The fans were as well. We thought we could beat anyone on a given day regardless of how
much better they were. The Big Orange upset two number one teams in one of those years.
I think it was 1959. Auburn was number one when we beat them and LSU was number one
when we beat them the same year.
When I read the defeatist and pride-less posts of so many of you it sickens me. A little more
pride and backbone is in order for you "nervous nellies".
